Burgon & Ball - a British company with a long tradition
The history of Burgon & Ball dates back to 1730, spanning almost 300 years. As early as the middle of the 19th century, the Sheffield-based company produced up to 300,000 shears a year for sheep shearing. Want to know the secret of their success? Instead of using iron, they used cast steel for their shearing blades.
At the end of the 19th century, the company began exporting its products to South America, a move that began the company's international reach. In the 1920's, the company began producing more secateurs than shears for the sheep shearing, changing the direction of their product development. Today Burgon & Ball garden tools are officially recommended by the Royal Horticultural Society - there could hardly be a greater distinction in the horticultural industry!
